Project story
Editorial notes
This custom home in Sandy was fully gutted and renovated. It started with dated finishes throughout: a brass fireplace surround, brown and orange tile, dark trim and a layout that no longer suited daily life. The mid-century character stayed: vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, a sculptural wood-clad fireplace column, a freestanding fireplace on the lower level and warm wood paneling. Around those features, the layout was reworked for better flow and everyday function, with new flooring, lighting, cabinetry and baths.
Outside, the landscape was redone to reflect the mountain setting of the neighborhood, so the house and its surroundings read as one place.
Walkthrough
The great room
Exposed beams and a wall of angled windows frame the wood-clad fireplace column, the original centerpiece of the house, now set against clean white walls and light stone floors.

The lower level
Sage-green cabinetry and a paneled bar give the lower level a place to gather, while a wood-paneled den keeps the warmth of the original house.

Bath and stair
The primary bath pairs large marble-look tile with a deep green shower wall. The stair was refinished with new trim to match the lighter, updated palette.
