Project story
Editorial notes
The homeowners wanted a yard they could use in every season, not just a few weeks of summer. The plan turned an ordinary lawn and patio into a series of places to be outside: a hot tub set into an elevated deck for cold evenings, a tanning bed for sunny afternoons, and a pergola swing just off the patio.
Dark-stained wood ties the deck and pergolas together, concrete stepping pads connect each space across the lawn, and new planting beds with drip irrigation and gravel paths soften the fence line. Low landscape lighting carries the yard into the evening, so it feels like an oasis year-round rather than a summer-only space.
Walkthrough
The hot tub deck
A tiered deck in dark-stained wood sets the hot tub into a raised platform beneath a pergola, with wide built-in steps that double as seating and space for the tanning bed. Stepping pads lead to it across the lawn.

The pergola swing
A deep daybed swing hangs from a dark-stained pergola beside the patio, a shaded place to read or nap that looks out over the lawn.
